Kristine and Francis’ wedding reception was held at the Jefferson Street Mansion in Benicia (one of my most fave reception sites!) this past May. The theme was the ever popular “cherry blossom” …but, their’s had an adorable twist! They cleverly incorporated their love of video games into the the theme in a subtle, and very creative way! For example, their invitation text read “The time has come to quit playing games!… Kristine and Francis have decided to level up in their game of love” and had little pink game controllers hanging from the cherry blossom branch. Too cute I Love it!
The invitation served as the inspiration of the cake design. Besides the “game controllers”, the coloring was another unique aspect that i was super happy to incorporate in to the cake. Ombre shades of beige made a lovely background palette for the pink and brown cherry blossom motif ~ with, of course, the game controllers.
Kristine got crafty and made her own cake topper ~ which was a really sweet bird’s nest with lovebirds and an arch

And… some of the other reception details
The draped ceiling of the JSM pavilion never fails to awe me! It’s simply stunning every time I see it!
pretty table arrangements and flowers from Yoli’s Flowers
i LOVE the ceremony space at Jefferson Street Mansion… it’s especially pretty here with the pink and white globes hanging amongst the wisteria blossoms
Here are Kristine and Francis by the way!
It was a beautiful reception! Congratulations to the happy couple and wishing them many cherry blossom seasons of happiness!
Melissa and Jon wanted a simple, vintage and feminine look that incorporated lace for their wedding cake and complementary cupcakes. They had an inspiration (webfind) picture that they provided to give me an idea of their direction. And, Jon did a pretty darn good lil’ sketch to also help convey the look they wanted…
I love when people give me some visual guidance or clues about what they want designed for their cake. I love even more when GROOMS get involved in the decision making! Love his drawing!!
I never want to copy another cakemaker’s work, but providing your cakemaker with some inspiration is usually helpful – and being open to tweak and twists to the design will make it your own and more fun for your cakemaker as well. We did just that for Melissa and Jon’s cake! YAY!
After a bit of time at our consultation meeting we focused on the couples plan to use a variety of laces, a vintage era, and nailed down the colors – tiffany blue (still popular for sure!) and white with hot pink. I suggested that each tier of the cake have a different “pattern” of lace style piping, to help pull in that part of the design for the event.
Here’s their cake!
The fresh peonies for the cake were… AH-MaZ-ing!! I adore.adore.adore peonies…. and these were some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen! :O
a closer look at the “lace” piping… and the cutie bird toppers!
and some snapshots of the other adorable details of this event…
The Old Homestead in Crockett, CA is a beautiful outdoor setting – surrounded by mature redwoods. The deck is a lovely spot for displaying your cake as the guests can view it all throughout the reception, and everyone gets to see “the cutting”. However, in an area such as this… you want to provide some shelter and protection from the sun and tree leaves. A canopy or umbrella will do the trick! We draped some feminine white tulle on this umbrella to help make it look more “vintageY” and add more softness (and additional protection).
creative “sign in table” – love it!
The “sweets” table was on the deck near the cake table. When i set up the candy wasn’t filled yet (oh snap!) but it still looked adorable.
So cute, hu!?!
