Kelly and James’ Vineyard Wedding
Kelly and James wanted a BIG wedding cake and came to me with an inpiration cake picture similar to this with lots of gold on it. Shown here is her very own version of that cake.
Smooth buttercream icing is piped with repeating scroll pattern, then guilded with edible gold. Huge (and perfectly shaped!) “Black Magic” roses with berries and a gold cake plateau complete the presentation.
Clients: Kelly and James, married Sept. 6, 2008 at Viansa Winery in Sonoma, CA
Flavor: “Chocolate Divine” - Devil’s Food Chocolate cake infused with Champagne, with Champagne Custard, Strawberry preserves and Dark Chocolate Truffle fillings and Vanilla Buttercream icing.
More details:
Beautiful flowers make SUCH a difference in the final look of a cake. I am always so excited to see flowers such as these perfect Black Magic roses – so fresh and rich in color – with a nice textural complementary flower like the berries. All of the care put into decorating a cake can be lost if the flowers placed on it are not top notch… so I always advise to make sure the there are plenty of flowers and they are in perfect condition… that way, your cake will be just right!
Other reception details
Grand floral centerpieces with tall glass vases, crystals and lace
pretty reception tent draped ceiling with hanging lanterns
creative cork bases for the namecards rest on an impressive bed of Black magic roses
Dining tables nestled under the trees with twinkling lights.. image how pretty when the lights go down!
the “outdoor lounge” - cushioned benches with plenty of seating for guests to enjoy the evening air
Aren’t these the ”lawn balloons” COOLEST! They were placed all around the wide lawn and illuminated for a romantic and funky lighting effect afterdark… loved ‘em!!

The vineyard view – sunshine, olive trees and grapevines in early Fall…
Many thanks to Kelly and James for having me be a part of their beautiful wedding day.
As always, comments are appreciated!
Carrie and Steve’s Palm Event Center wedding – Aug. 23, 2008
Carrie and Steve found a beautiful scrollwork pattern in his parent’s hometown in Germany and wanted to somehow incorporate it into the wedding cake decoration. They also wanted to bring in the wine theme as the ceremony/reception was held at a winery, and they all loved marzipan, and wanted something spectacular but not too untraditional ~ no problem!! =)
White chocoalate ganache glaze is heavily adorned with intricate piped dark chocolate scrolling and handmade marzipan grape clusters in burgandy, purple and green.
Carrie went back and forth on dark chocolate or white chocolate icing (see virtual cake post ) and I think she made the right decision for sure ~ dramatic and elegant! The virtual cake mock ups shown here helped her visualize the final outcome.
Thanks for viewing! As always, comments are welcomed and appreciated!
