Victoria and Brian’s reception had a “pearl” motif and she wanted the cake to include them as well.  White fondant iced square tiers are quilted and embellished with piped “pearls” in soft pearly pink.  Satin ribbon in sage green border each tier and fresh flowers in bright pinks complement the pink and green (and pearl!) fabric covering the table.
Flavor: “Aphrodite” – Devil’s Food Chocolate cake brushed with Champagne, filled with Champagne Custard, Strawberry preserves and Dark Chocolate Truffle.
Clients: Victoria and Bryan, married October 18, 2008, reception at Dublin Ranch Golf Club in Dublin, CA.

The pearl theme was carried out in subtle ways through out the reception decor….

“Carmen” – for Carmen and Claudiu on October 11, 2008

“Carmen” – for Carmen and Claudiu on October 11, 2008, originally uploaded by Glass Slipper Gourmet.

Carmen wanted something elegant, but unique for her wedding cake. The wired glass bead border (a.k.a. cake jewelry) did the trick!  Just the right amount of funky… with just the right amount of classy!
The rich fall colors used in the reception decor was also used on the cake.  I LOVE it when people go with bold colors for the cake!  It scares some people… thinking it will be too wierd, but as you can see – color can still be classic and elegant when used carefully.  Here, soft yellow buttercream icing is piped with coppery orange in a scrolling pattern taken from the reception invitations.  Not wanting the orange to be too much, it’s only covering the middle tier fully – with just a top border on the upper and lower tiers.
Here’s the cake before flowers and the glass beaded border….

And then with the fresh flowers, beaded glass border and crystal monogram topper added….

A close up on the wired glass bead border/cake jewelry …  (it took FOREVER to do, but I like the effect)

And other pretty room decor….

This is the prettiest I’ve ever seen the Shadelands Art Center look – it was STUNNING!

AWESOME lighted draping cascading the ceiling!

The floral centerpieces were just as dramatic!

I love how the orange pops with color

And, the cake to go with it all…

Congratulations Carmen and Claudiu – wishing you all the best!

“Let’s Bowl!” Birthday cake for MacKenzie and Jason, Oct. 11, 2008

"Let's Bowl!" Birthday cake for MacKenzie and Jason, Oct. 11, 2008 by you.

“Let’s Bowl!” Birthday cake for MacKenzie and Jason, Oct. 11, 2008, originally uploaded by Glass Slipper Gourmet.

My neice MacKenzie and nephew Jason celebrated their birthdays at the local bowling alley this year, which was really fun!  Their birthdays are 1 month apart and since they get along so well (thank god!) they are happy to have a joint party (which makes their mom and dad very, very happy!) Of course, that means I … “Auntie Q” … got to come up with a fun bowling alley themed cake.  I decided to go all out and make as many details as I could.  It had been a while since I’d been in a bowling alley… but my memory came back as I was getting into it.
A few of the details….

I had fun making as much “action” as I could – the bowling pins flying and the ball “weaving” down the lanes.

I’m not the BEST at making figures… but at least they somewhat resembled the kids and hey – they didn’t fall apart or anything! (practice make perfect… maybe by the time they’re grown up I’ll be good at figures!)

Of COURSE, they both got STRIKES!!!  :)

MacKenzie turned 10 this year … a BIG one for her (not only in the normal “double digits” sense, but she was born on the 10th day of the 10th month at …yep, 10am!  guess what her lucky number is!!) And Jason turned the big 7 this year.  Their bowling shirts have their appropriate numbers on the back and their chairs are also numbered on the front.

It was kinda hard coming up with a way to incorporate a message on this cake…

but… this worked!  It’s supposed to be like the neon signs the bowling alley has on the street – you know saying what’s upcoming and stuff… yeah?

There’s MacKenzie (on the left, in pink) and Jason, in the stripes – Happy, Happy, Happy!

I think MacKenzie is admiring “herself”  =)

“That’s ME!” Jason says!  The cake “Jason” has a faux-hawk hairstyle just like the real Jason!  HA!HA!  (and he noticed too!)

Happy Birthday little ones!  I love you THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS  much!!  Love, Auntie Q

p.s ask mommy if you can write a comment on here and surprise me!!  =)

Ivory fondant is overlayed with handcut fondant “eyelet lace” applied in a criss-cross pattern, then accented with buttercream piping and satin ribbons.  A fondant bow of the same finishes the top and fresh orchids complete the presentation.
Flavor:  Dutchess – White cake with vanilla custard, apricot preserves and almond cream fillings.

“Flirtation” – for Kelly and Bruce on Sept. 27, 2008, originally uploaded by Glass Slipper Gourmet.

Kelly and Bruce had a black, white, silver and “sparkle” themed room for their reception, at the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio, San Francisco.
The Crystal be-jeweled trees just captivated me and I have to post them!  Soooo delicate and bold at the same time!
Can you imagine how stunning when the lights go down!?!
How dramatic… fire and ice!!

“Hollywood Regency” – for Melissa and Trenton

“Hollywood Regency” – for Melissa and Trenton, originally uploaded by Glass Slipper Gourmet.

On my way to meet with Melissa and Trent for the first time, I picked up my mail and the latest issue of “Modern Wedding Cakes and Chocolate” was in my mailbox – so I threw it in my bag.  I handed them the magazine as I was setting up my “stuff” for the meeting, and within minutes they said “THIS ONE!”  This cake was exactly what they wanted… exactly!  It was fate! =)
This design was “pinched” from Sweet Art (Australia). The flowers are fresh, the ribbon fabric – otherwise, fully edible.
Clients: Melissa and Trenton, married September 14, 2008 at Jefferson Street Mansion in Benicia, CA
Flavor: “Irish Cream
More detailed cake pictures…
I had some extra roses, and some petals to the table

You may wonder about the title of this cake design… It comes from the interior design by the same name popular in the 30’s and making a nice comeback currently.  Here are a few example of Hollywood Regency interior design… do you think it’s a good name for the cake?
