“Wonderland” for Raychelle and Dante

Raychelle and Dante LOVE Disneyland, so much so that they wanted to make it their wedding reception theme!  It wasn’t sooo Disney as to be over the top… but enough to represent the place they love and to be a fun and festive party.

The cake is inspired by scenes from the movie and book

Raychelle wanted the cake to be “topsy-turvy” in shape

with lots of pink icing spilling over….

These days, cakes this shape are called several different names… “Topsy-Turvy”, “Mad Hatter”, “Wacky Cakes”, “Crooked Cakes”, and (my favorite) “Kattywhompas”… no matter what you call it ~ this is style says FUN and whimsical!

“Wonderland”

The tilted tiers are covered with soft white fondant, then overlayed with more pink fondant to make the “icing”.  Piped buttercream in various shades of pink help to define the slanted shape.

Erica and Craig – Dec. 6, 2008

erica and craig, originally uploaded by Glass Slipper Gourmet.

Erica and Craig’s winter wedding theme was “Snowflakes” and the colors, rich platnum and wine… so elegant!  I love a winter wedding that’s not “Christmas”y!
When Erica and I met, she had some ideas for what she wanted and we reviewed a few of her “finds” from the web.  In the end, she choose a design originally by “She Takes the Cake”, but with a few adjustments and additions to make it her own.  I was so pleased with her choice, and looked forward to making the cake for her!
And, here it is……
Four square tiers are iced with white fondant, piped with buttercream “snow” and gumpaste “snowflakes”..

Cupcake “Wrapture”

I subscribe to Cupcake Journal, a fantastic blog on all things cake!  Recently Louise blogged about these ADORABLE cupcake wrappers by Cupcake Wrapture (which, is by the way, The Cutest Name for a cupcake company – ever!)  Cupcakes are cute enough on their own… but when you dress them up in fancy clothes ~ well… now that’s even better!

From Cupcake Wrapture’s Lisa Mudrakoff:

Cupcake Wrapture was created when Head Designer Lisa realized that all those pretty cupcake liners refused to stay pretty once an actual cupcake was baked inside them..

Desperate for some stylish togs for her fashion conscious cupcake friends, Lisa reached for the scissors and paper and voila! Cupcake Wrapture was born

The wraps come in several styles, colors and patterns and are quite reasonably priced (at least I think so, for the design impact they give!)

Here are a few that caught my eye….
