8. “WHAT’S FOR DINNER?” – about the Personal Chef part of my biz…
When I entered culinary school, way back in 1996…., a knew I wanted to do wedding cakes. I’d always had an admiration for the beauty and design of cakes and thought it would be such a cool profession. But… I didn’t want to limit myself, and didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to learn about the whole culinary profession ~ so I enrolled in the “full chef program” instead of just the “pastry chef program”. I’m SOOOO glad I made that choice- way back then!
I have an equal love of the pastry arts, and the “hot food” aspect of the industry. I’m one who can get easily bored doing the same thing over and over… and enjoy the different ways of thinking that each “world” requires. It’s pretty rare that a chef will “cross-over” – you are either a hot-food (right brain) thinker, or a pastry (left brain) thinker …. well, at least that’s what ‘they’ say! In pastry recipes you pretty much have to follow the rules – or the cake won’t bake right, but in savory recipes you can randomly stray from the specified rules and there is not too much of a chance of disaster… usually you come out with a new recipe. Most people either like to follow or break the rules and hence, choose pastry or savory positions in the culinary field. Me – I like to do both! So, I created Glass Slipper Gourmet!!
In my business I am able to spend about half my week cooking for clients in their homes, preparing gourmet family meals – and half my week creating cakes. It’s absolutely the best of both worlds for me!
I truly adore the families I cook for and get such a wonderful sense of achievment from the involvement I have their daily routine. Whether it’s as simple as giving a busy professional family a little ‘down-time’ before dinner, or as important as ‘this or go hungry’ for some of my challenged clients – the appreciation shown to me is a great reward.
A personal chef can provide an opportunity for great change in your life and I am thrilled to be part of the process! Cooking for my loved-ones has always been a way that I show my affection for them, and it now extends to an even wider circle.
Let’s Eat!! =D
