“Night at the Movies” – Noelle and Alberto

Noelle and Alberto came to me just a couple of weeks prior to their wedding… still looking for the perfect cake to go with their “Night at the Movies” reception theme. They didn’t want just a “regular” cake… didn’t want flowers.. DID want something that represented them in a unique and fun way! Their wedding planners (the awesome team of Natalie and Lea of Simply Sparkling Events) gave them my name and we were off and running…..
The reception’s theme was movies, movies, movies… the cake needed to play it’s role (sorry!) too! They wanted something thematic, but still elegant and classy. Black, White and a touch of

“Carissa” for Carissa and Dinesh

Carissa and Dinesh found me via their friends Missy and David Brennan. I did the cake for their wedding last year and happily Carissa and Dinesh remembered their cake and wanted a Glass Slipper Gourmet cake for their own wedding!
This wedding was just days after the Christmas holiday and while they wanted a festive winter- holiday look to the cake.. they didn’t want it “Christmasy”. The colors for the event were chocolate brown and deep red, with gold accents. Beautiful!

Carissa wanted to incorporate some of the details from her wedding dress into the cake design. But ~ Dinesh wasn’t allowed to see the dress until the day of the wedding, so he was a great sport and gave some artistic freedom up in the

“Wonderland” for Raychelle and Dante
Raychelle and Dante LOVE Disneyland, so much so that they wanted to make it their wedding reception theme! It wasn’t sooo Disney as to be over the top… but enough to represent the place they love and to be a fun and festive party.
The cake is inspired by scenes from the movie and book
Raychelle wanted the cake to be “topsy-turvy” in shape
with lots of pink icing spilling over….
These days, cakes this shape are called several different names… “Topsy-Turvy”, “Mad Hatter”, “Wacky Cakes”, “Crooked Cakes”, and (my favorite) “Kattywhompas”… no matter what you call it ~ this is style says FUN and whimsical!

“Wonderland”
The tilted tiers are covered with soft white fondant, then overlayed with more pink fondant to make the “icing”. Piped buttercream in various shades of pink help to define the slanted shape.
Wait! there’s more…. (more…)
Cool Paper Cake Toppers/Crown from Le Big Kiss
I came across this fantastic idea when I was browsing on Flickr and saw this cake on Wild Cakes page…

Isn’t it LOVELY!!
The topper is a paper wrapper available to purchase at Le Big Kiss, made by English artist Tanya Short. They sell for 35-45 (euro) and come ready made or custom. The crown is a paper wrap in various motifs with embellishments of glitter, cystals, pearls/beads, metal leafing, etc. VERY UNIQUE and special I think!
Here are a few that I especially liked…

Alicia and Gabe – November 9, 2008

Alicia and Gabe’s reception mosaic, originally uploaded by Glass Slipper Gourmet.
Alicia and Gabe’s wedding was held at the Palm Event Center, a lovely and elegant winery/vineyard setting. So, they wanted to incorporate the grapes into one of my other designs. Originally inspired by “Filagree Scrolling“, this new design has subtle chocolate piped grapes, a chocolate piped “A” monogram on the top tier and a chocolate drape on the lower tiers. Fresh roses in rich fall colors and fragrant gardenias complete the display.
The cake table was placed in a temporarily awkward location and hidden behind a partition until the room opened up to guests – at which time it would be front and center – so, I had a hard time getting a good angle, but here are few detail shots…

“Fleur de Lie Scroll” – for Sarah and Aaron, October 26, 2008
“Fleur de Lie Scroll” – for Sarah and Aaron, October 26, 2008, originally uploaded by Glass Slipper Gourmet.
Sarah and Aaron’s wedding invitation had a lovely fleur de lie patten in chocolate and ivory… and we used it as inspiration for their cake decoration. A simple band of piped buttercream in the same color as the cake’s buttercream icing is delicately enhanced with dots of chocolate for interest. Fresh autumn flowers and foliage and a silver monogram topper complete the presentation. The cake flavors are “Red Velvet” in two tiers and “Princess” in the top.
The invitation provided inspiration, but they didn’t want the whole cake covered with the pattern, so an “excerpt” was taken to create a band of pattern around the base of each tier. Also, the invitation pattern did not have the chocolate brown “dots”, but they wanted the color added as it tied in with bridesmaid’s dresses and added a nice decorative touch.

And more cake images….

Sarah also ordered a Groom’s cake for Aaron, which was served at their Rehearsal Luncheon at the Dead Fish in Crockett, CA. It was a “Favorite Things” theme, including some of Aaron’s hobbies and interests… pier fishing (with a 6-pack of Bud), 49er’s football, poker and the miliary police.

all of the details are edible, made of fondant and gumpaste, and are placed on a buttercream iced sheet cake. The flavor of the cake was “Pucker Up” (Aaron’s favorite at the tasting appointment).
The ceremony and reception was held at Jefferson Street Mansion in Benicia, CA (a personal favorite venue!). Some details of the setup for Sarah and Aaron…

fall bouquets await the ladies…

Congratulations Sarah and Aaron – wishing you much happiness and joy in your marriage!

And then with the fresh flowers, beaded glass border and crystal monogram topper added….

A close up on the wired glass bead border/cake jewelry … (it took FOREVER to do, but I like the effect)

And other pretty room decor….

This is the prettiest I’ve ever seen the Shadelands Art Center look – it was STUNNING!

AWESOME lighted draping cascading the ceiling!

The floral centerpieces were just as dramatic!

I love how the orange pops with color

And, the cake to go with it all…
Congratulations Carmen and Claudiu – wishing you all the best!
